Get to Know . . .
Soldier Bear Philip Hopman

Philip Hopman was born between Holland’s tulip fields, the youngest son of a tulip farmer. He wasn’t very keen on a career in the tulips, though, so he packed his bags and went off to the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 1979, hoping to try his luck as as fashion designer. This career was short-lived, however. It was after several years of working in an animation film studio that he finally found his true calling as a children’s book illustrator in 1988. Since then, he has illustrated over 150 books, including Bibi Dumon Tak’s Soldier Bear.
